On September 10, 2025, Santiam Valley Ranch initiated biocontrol for Canada thistle. The insect, Canada thistle stem mining weevil (Ceutorhynchus/Hadroplontus litura) was purchased from Integrated Weed Control, Bozeman, MT and were accompanied with a permit issued by USDA, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, Plant Protection & Quarantine which regulates interstate transfer for biocontrol organisms.

Integrated Weed Control provides insects that target:  Canada thistle, Knapweed, Leafy spurge, Poison hemlock, Toadflax, St. Johnswort, Common mullein and Purple loosestrife.
